The "Baby Fish Oil Tea Chronicles" practice team ventured into the old town of Nanning and visited Guantang Market, a place that preserves the memory of old Nanning. Here lies an oil tea street, where each small oil tea stall sets out two or three tables, and the proprietors warmly call out to invite passers-by to come in and taste the oil tea.
At a small restaurant named "Chenji Guilin Rice Noodles", we tasted traditional oil tea, oil tea rice noodles, as well as Guilin-style snacks paired with oil tea—Chuan Shang Ba (boat cake) and Gao Liang Ba (sorghum cake). The landlady kindly told us that she is a native of Guilin. These boat cakes and sorghum cakes were freshly brought in from Guilin, and the oil tea sold every day is hand-made by her, which is different from others. She also mentioned that oil tea rice noodles are a traditional Guilin dish, with the marinade made by herself. Guilin people also enjoy sweet rice wine with eggs added to oil tea, which is good for health.
After tasting the delicious food, we conducted a special interview with the landlady. We had an in-depth conversation focusing on the characteristics of oil tea, store operation, personal experience and the current situation of the industry. Based on her own operation experience, the landlady patiently answered all kinds of questions from the team members and shared detailed information. The specific interview content is sorted out point by point as follows:
